China ProjectsAfter a number of years of understanding the Church in China, and developing relationships at all levels of the Church, we've asked our Chinese Christian friends how we can best serve their growth and development. In trying to be good listeners and really understanding what their felt needs are, there are two projects that have come through as ways that we can take the resources we have in the West to serve their growth and development.
1. Theological Training
We've developed a system where we recruit 2 to 3-man teams to go to China for a 12-day training trip. These teams have Chinese pastors from Chinese churches in the U.S. These teams are teaching on subjects like proper Biblical interpretation, effective evangelism, etc. These are the subjects they need most and are asking us for. We will focus these teams in a 5 province area of Northeast China, with Tianjin being the center of activity.
2. Bible Distribution
In 2004, the Amity Printing Co., which is a cooperative effort between the China Christian Council and the United Bible Societies, printed 5.4 million Bibles in China last year. Those Bibles then go by railcar to 70 distribution points throughout the country. From those points, they have Bible distribution vans that take those Bibles to all corners of China. When you look at the radius of where those vans take the Bibles, there is still some very remote areas of China that do not have access to those Bibles. We raise money to get Bibles to those very rural areas of China. For about $2.50, you can cover the cost of the Bible, distribution and the oversight of the distribution itself.
Having a deep heart for the Chinese people makes us look for every opportunity to be with and influence the Chinese people. Being based in Denver gives us the opportunity to spend with Chinese Students and Scholars at University of Colorado's Health Science Center (Medical School). We want these Chinese intellectuals to know and feel God's love for them while they are here with us in Denver. Through English Classes and Bible Studies, we want to serve these Chinese Scholars while they are here!
